The topic of today’s article is – is Jesus God? The reason for this article is because for a very long time there has been a big debate between Trinitarians (which I affirm) and Oneness believers, which is a different topic for a different post at a future time.
In this article I want to go into the Word of God and see if we can find Biblical evidence that supports Jesus Christ is God. We are going to answer five questions which are:
1. Does Jesus have the attributes of God?
2. Does Jesus have the divine title of God?
3. Does Jesus do something that only God can do?
4. Does anyone acknowledge Jesus as God?
5. Does Jesus claim to be God?
Does Jesus Have the Attributes of God?
As we will do with each question we will take a look at Scripture to see what answer God has revealed to us through His written Word.
In the book of Hebrews the author connects the description of Yahweh in Psalms 102:25-27 to Jesus in Hebrews 1:8-12:
Psalms 102:25-27 (NKJV) 25 Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens [are] the work of Your hands. 26 They will perish, but You will endure; Yes, they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will change them, And they will be changed. 27 But You [are] the same, And Your years will have no end.
Hebrews 1:8-12 (NKJV) 8 But to the Son [He says:] “Your throne, O God, [is] forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness [is] the scepter of Your kingdom. 9 You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.” 10 And: “You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. 11 They will perish, but You remain; And they will all grow old like a garment; 12 Like a cloak You will fold them up, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not fail.”
Does Jesus Have the Divine Title of God?
Jesus is given divine titles such as “Lord of Lords,” “King of Kings,” and “Alpha and Omega”.
Christ is called “King of kings” and “Lord of lords” in:
1 Timothy 6:13-16 (NKJV) 13 I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and [before] Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep [this] commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, 15 which He will manifest in His own time, [He who is] the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom [be] honor and everlasting power. Amen.
Revelation 17:14 (NKJV) “These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those [who are] with Him [are] called, chosen, and faithful.”
Revelation 19:16 (NKJV) And He has on [His] robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
Jesus is called “Alpha and Omega” in:
Revelation 1:8 (NKJV) “I am the Alpha and the Omega, [the] Beginning and [the] End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Does Jesus Do Something That Only God Can Do?
We see several times in the New Testament during Jesus’ ministry that he forgave the sins of people. One example is found in:
Mark 2:5 (NKJV) When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”
Does Anyone Acknowledge Jesus As God?
After Jesus had risen from the dead He appeared to over five hundred people. One of them was Thomas and when he saw the risen Christ this was his reply:
John 20:26-29 (NKJV) 26 And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” 27 Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand [here,] and put [it] into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.” 28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed [are] those who have not seen and [yet] have believed.”
Does Jesus Claim To Be God?
Many people who deny the Trinity always deny the divinity of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately for them we have scripture that clearly shows that Jesus is God, such as:
John 1:1,14 (NKJV) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
But the question is, did Jesus claim to be God? Jesus made this claim in two specific ways, through miracles and through proclamation.
Seven miracles Jesus did were: turning water into wine; He healed a man’s son just by speaking; Jesus healed a lame man; Jesus fed five thousand men plus women and children with two fish and five loaves of bread; Christ walked on water; He healed a blind man; and Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.
Jesus also proclaimed to be God with seven “I Am” statements:
1. I am the bread of life – John 6:35
2. I am the light of the world – John 8:12
3. I am the door – John 10:7
4. I am the good shepherd – John 10;11,14
5. I am the resurrection and the life – John 11:25
6. I am the way, the truth, and the life – John 14:6
7. I am the true vine – John 15:1
So, to answer the question – is Jesus God?, we clearly see in scripture that He is!

God bless everyone. Today we have some heart breaking Christian news, where six Christians from an AG church were slaughtered by Islamic terrorists, in Burkina Faso which is located on the continent of Africa.
Today we are talking about the president of Union Theological Seminary in New York, Serene Jones. She was interviewed by Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times according to an article published in christianheadlines.com. She admits that she does not believe in Heaven, miracles, or Christ’s resurrection.

Prayer is one of the most vital tools in the life of a Christian. It is a bridge that we can use to reach out to God. Prayer is our opportunity to let our thoughts, emotions, and needs be made known to the one who created us. It can be our intimate conversation with the Lord almighty. It can be our cry for help. Prayer is what is so valuable in our relationship with God. It is our main form of communication.
